The reality of Skyler’s senior year is surreal—how are we already here?! It truly feels like we blinked and missed a year, especially since his sophomore year was overshadowed by his battle with Osteosarcoma. Now, after watching him ring that bell in August 2024, seeing my baby finally step into his final year of high school brings on all the feels: happy, sad, excited, and scared. As a mom who is kind, caring, and has a big heart, my parenting has gotten more lenient as he’s grown, but after everything we’ve been through, the hardest part of letting go will be genuinely allowing him to soar on his own. I feel that deep, protective need to always be there for him, Now I have to trust that he’s ready to live life, and that he will be in good hands wherever he decides to go.
