Wayne's senior year is proving to be a wild ride—a truly unique experience since he's our youngest and the last one at home. As a nurturing and protective mom, my involved but non-critical parenting style has allowed him to thrive while balancing football, track, bowling, and aiming for valedictorian. Our life is completely centered on his athletic adventures and school success, and while that's kept us busy, I know it's not a sustainable dynamic for much longer. He has so many collegiate choices open to him, which means we have a lot of big decisions left to make. The truth is, I haven't had a big emotional reaction yet, but I could any day. He’s so independent, and even though I’m incredibly proud of his ambition and big college goals, I know when he leaves, I'll be left with a silence that's hard to imagine.
