For Luke’s senior year, I’m trying to keep my focus where it should be: so very excited for him to dive into the next phase of his life. As a mom who is kind, caring, and understanding, my parenting style has always been defined by a clear schedule and high expectations, all wrapped in a lot of love. And I feel I have always been very grounded regarding the growth of my children. But even with all that grounding, the first day of 12th grade was profoundly emotional for me. He’s my youngest, and because I love him the most, this final year is just hitting differently. The hardest part of this whole transition will be simply acknowledging that his departure marks a new and completely unpredictable new chapter in all of our lives.
